BDC Alumnus Tyrone Stewart – Project Manager – Destination Gold Coast Consortium

Wednesday, 18 Sept 2024

My 13 years at 60ÊÓƵapp provided a strong foundation for the career I have today. HSC subjects such as physics, chemistry and extension mathematics proved valuable to my engineering studies. I represented BDC at school golf tournaments from 2010 to 2014, attending a Talent Development Program in 2013.

After leaving BDC, I enrolled at Griffith University and moved to the Gold Coast with my surfboard and golf clubs. I then spent 5 years at Griffith University completing a Bachelor of Engineering & Bachelor of Business, majoring in Civil Engineering & Property Development. From an early stage, this degree opened the door to many opportunities including a Cadetship at ADCO Constructions Pty Ltd, a leading private building company with an annual revenue of 1.2 billion.

After 5 years at ADCO Constructions I progressed from a Cadet, to a Contracts Administrator then a to a Project Engineer, managing $30-$100M commercial construction projects such a shopping centres, hospitals and infrastructure projects across Southeast Queensland.

Recently, I took a step towards the property development side of my career and joined a team working on a $350m mixed-use tower in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. This has a been a challenging project to say the least but with a bit hard work and problem solving we are on track for a successful handover early 2025. My efforts on this project have been rewarded, as I’ve now been promoted to Project Manager, a lifetime career goal of mine.

Being only 26, I plan to continue my career within the engineering & construction industry as I believe there is large pipeline of rewarding opportunities for young professionals. In the future I can see myself branching out with my own developments and settling down with a family of my own on the Gold Coast.

60ÊÓƵapp congratulates you and wishes the best of fortune for your future career path.
